Transcultural Systemic Therapy in Amstelveen
Therapy that works — regardless of background, culture, or belief. For couples, families, and individuals who are stuck or want to move forward.
What is systemic therapy?
Systemic therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which the focus is not only on the individual, but also on the relationships around you: partner, family, or work environment. The premise is that people do not exist in isolation — behavior and symptoms are always intertwined with the context in which you live.
Systemic therapy can be used as:
- Individual therapy
- Relationship therapy (couples)
- Family therapy
- Team and organizational coaching

What does transcultural mean?
The word transcultural refers to the knowledge and experience Phyllis has gained working with people from different cultures, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. Therapy is not neutral: norms, values, and family patterns are always culturally colored.
In Phyllisophy, these dimensions are taken seriously — without judgment, but with genuine curiosity about who you are and where you come from.
For whom?
Couples
Relationship problems, improving communication, doubts about the future, or separating constructively.
Families
Parenting questions, family conflicts, or breaking patterns passed down from generation to generation.
Individuals
Gain more self-insight, break free from ingrained patterns, or make more conscious choices in relationships and work.
Organizations
Teams or departments that are stuck in collaboration, communication, or diversity issues.
Relationship therapy
Relationship problems can manifest in many ways: arguments, distance, sex, jealousy, or simply the feeling that you are no longer on the same wavelength. Sometimes the question also arises as to whether you even want to continue together.
In relationship therapy at Phyllisofie, you work together on understanding each other's perspective — with attention to what your cultural backgrounds bring into the relationship.
Family therapy
In a family, members constantly influence one another. Sometimes contact breaks down—due to puberty, divorce, new family members, or intergenerational patterns.
Family therapy focuses on the relationships within the family, not just on one person. Intercultural families or blended families are also welcome at Phyllisofie.
Compensation and financing
Phyllisofie is a private practice. A referral from a GP is not required. The client receives an invoice — this can be an individual, but also an organization, employer, or municipality.
Health insurance
Systemic therapy and individual psychosocial therapy are sometimes reimbursed through supplementary insurance. Please inform your insurer that Phyllis Döll is affiliated with NVPA and RBCZ. Contact your own health insurer for more information.
